G&T Assembles Fidget Boards

On November 8 a group of 16 volunteers in Byron Center got together and assembled “fidget boards” for Alzheimer’s patients.  Fidget boards are wooden boards with miscellaneous attachments to fidget with, such as switches, locks, plugs, and other everyday household items.  The boards are used to keep Alzheimer’s patients busy when they get anxious so that they don’t injure themselves by plucking at their skin or hair.  We partnered with Gentiva Hospice for the project.  Gentiva distributes the boards to organizations or families who need them.  Their demand is so high that at the time that we did our assembly their supply was completely depleted.  We were able to assemble 16 boards for them, and over the course of a month were able to gather enough donated items for all of the boards.
